The mess dining hall was the usual, a complete mess. The dining hall was one of the few parts of the onetime asylum left alone. Rows of cobbled-together tables in long rows could be moved if there was a need. The front of the large dining area was set aside for Zas and his “chosen” for that week.
When she entered, Jonica didn’t keep her head down. Pissed off enough, she dared the Three Sisters, who looming in one corner of the hall, to do something. Without breaking stride, while still checked where the Three Sisters were, she headed for food. One of the Sisters was always with Zas, even during mealtimes. Tonight, it was Lena. Fesh and Dela were with their small clique of troubled girls that had been “saved” from the rest of the Mutts or Flyboys. Jonica rolled her eyes and continued towards the head of the line.
The food wasn’t the best, but it was nutritious and at least filling. Plus, Momma Hasp could make sure that the pirates didn’t all starve. Even those on half-rations given enoug…
